Spring Green, WI – State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) today announced his intent to run for re-election to represent the 17th Senate District in the Wisconsin State Senate. Marklein began circulating nomination papers on April 15, 2018 and is prepared to run.

“It has been a privilege to work on behalf of the citizens of the 17th Senate District and all of rural Wisconsin in the State Senate,” Marklein said. “We accomplished a lot of great reform and delivered more funds to schools, roads and broadband! But there is more to do and I want to keep working on behalf of those I serve. I am seeking your vote on November 6, 2018.”

“I have led the fight for increased funding for small, rural schools. I have championed $14.5 million more for rural broadband expansion this year. I have fought for rural roads and won. Rural Wisconsin is top of mind in the legislature because I have never stopped fighting for it,” Marklein said.

“We have so much to be proud of, and thankful for, in our communities. The unemployment rate is at an all-time low. Businesses are expanding. Kids are learning in safe schools. Our community healthcare providers are keeping us healthy and strong with new technologies and innovative tools. And while we may grumble a bit, many of our rural roads are going to be under construction this summer to improve transportation to – and from – our communities! Rural Wisconsin continues to be a great place to grow, live and retire!”

“During this season of campaigning, I will continue to work hard to get ready for another term. I will be working with economic developers in rural Wisconsin and rural legislators to design an effective, thoughtful Rural Economic Development package to be included in the next budget. I will be reviewing rural road projects to help accelerate those that are needed now, rather than later. I will continue to study our state’s finances to find ways to distribute funds to the areas in most need. I will monitor the new School Safety program as it is rolled out and work with the 34 school districts in our communities to insure our kids are learning in a safe school.”

“As I travel throughout the 17th Senate District to seek your support on November 6th, I look forward to hearing your ideas and receiving your input. The best reforms we have made have come directly from the people we serve who are living, working, volunteering and leading in our communities. I know there is more work to do and I am ready, and eager, to do it.”

“If you want a problem-solver in the legislature; someone who studies the issues, analyzes the data and listens, vote for me. If you want someone who is focused on all of rural Wisconsin; someone who knows and values our way of life and understands what it takes to protect it, vote for me. If you want a reformer; someone who can get it done and deliver results, I am your Senator.”
