Ald. Robert J. Bauman
(414) 286-3774

Alderman Robert J. Bauman today introduced a Common Council resolution that would mandate city replacement of lead water service lines on all 1-4 family residential properties owned by the city through the In Rem process.

The resolution (Council File #171393) would affect any 1-4 family residential properties owned by the city through the In Rem process (properties taken by the city because of unpaid property taxes) except those properties that are scheduled for demolition.

“The city has a responsibility to be proactive in protecting the health of residents who live in city-owned residential properties,” said Alderman Bauman, chair of the Public Works Committee.

“This resolution would mandate that city departments work to accomplish lead service line replacement in a timely manner, and it would impact properties across the entire city. I am hopeful it will receive wide support from my Council colleagues,” the alderman said.

Alderman Bauman’s legislation (Council file #171538) will be heard by the Public Works Committee on Wednesday, January 24 at 9 a.m. in room 301-B at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.
