Delafield, WI – Marine veteran and political outsider Kevin Nicholson issued the following statement regarding illegal immigration and family separations at the border of the United States:

“As a father I feel great concern any time I see a child crying out of fear or desperation, anywhere in the world.

In this case, I’m also angry with the many entrenched Washington politicians – like Tammy Baldwin – who have worked mightily to encourage the ‘catch and release’ illegal immigration policies that put innocent children in this position in the first place.

We must stop illegal immigration by securing our southern border.  Now that we face this Obama/Baldwin-induced immigration crisis, I support Senator Ted Cruz’s call for legislation that requires expedited hearings and processing within 14 days, quick asylum for those who qualify, and speedy deportation for those who do not qualify. Families should be kept together while that happens.”

The legislation Nicholson referenced supporting does the following:

  • Double the number of federal immigration judges, from roughly 375 to 750.
  • Authorize new temporary shelters, with accommodations to keep families together.
  • Mandate that illegal immigrant families must be kept together, absent aggravated criminal conduct or threat of harm to the children.
  • Provide for expedited processing and review of asylum cases, so that—within 14 days—those who meet the legal standards will be granted asylum, and those who do not will be immediately returned to their home countries.

Nicholson is a decorated Marine Corps veteran who served combat tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He currently works as a business consultant, helping companies solve their toughest problems. He is a first-time candidate running in the Republican primary to defeat Democrat Tammy Baldwin. He and his wife live in Delafield with their three young children.
