Ryan’s Infamous Tweet Highlights Disparity of TrumpTax

Janesville, WI – This week, Not One Penny erected a new billboard in Janesville displaying Speaker Paul Ryan’s infamous tweet in which he cited a Pennsylvania secretary’s pay increase of $1.50 per week as evidence of the TrumpTax’s success. The tweet implicitly highlights the massive disparity between the TrumpTax’s hefty rewards for the already-wealthy and those for working families.

The tweet sparked backlash resulting in Ryan’s office deleting the tweet, but as the billboard points out: the internet is forever, Speaker Ryan. Constituents won’t forget Republicans’ votes to give millionaires, billionaires and wealthy corporations a tax cut at the expense of working families, and will hold Speaker Ryan and their elected officials accountable.

The Janesville billboard exposes the lie that the TrumpTax benefits the middle class. In fact, when fully phased in, 83% of the TrumpTax breaks will go to the top 1%.

“The internet is forever, Speaker Ryan,” said Not One Penny spokesperson Tim Hogan. “Ryan is more than happy giving millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations massive profits at the expense of Wisconsin’s working families. His constituents will not forget his donors-first agenda, and they will hold him accountable for undermining the well-being of Wisconsin families.”

The Tax Policy Center found that 92 million middle income families across America will pay more in taxes, while the richest 0.1 percent will get a nearly $150,000 tax break with the TrumpTax. Millions will also see a 10 percent increase in health insurance premiums and our commitment to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will be undermined.
