Brookfield, WI — Tom Palzewicz, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Wisconsin’s 5th District, today issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s tweet denying the official death toll from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

Today, Donald Trump has yet again proven himself unworthy of the office he holds. The President is denying the official death toll from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico while peddling a pathetic conspiracy theory.

Instead of working to prevent another massive loss of life like we saw in Puerto Rico, he is defiling the memory of the nearly 3,000 American citizens who lost their lives on his watch. This is an appaling attempt to avoid responsibility and accountability.

This flagrant attack on truth and decency are yet another in a long line of actions that reveal Donald Trump is potentially unfit for the office of the President. His blatant disrespect for the truth and basic morality has put our country on a dangerous path that we cannot allow ourselves to continue on.

My opponent, 40-year incumbent Jim Sensenbrenner, has been complicit in the unraveling of the moral fabric of our great nation through his continued silence and refusal to stand against these constant attacks on decency. The future of our country is at stake, yet Rep. Sensenbrenner has clearly made the decision to put his Party before his country, and in doing so, has betrayed the very oath he’s taken every two years for four decades.

Tom Palzewicz is a Navy veteran and business owner who is running to bring responsible and common-sense solutions to Congress. The general election will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
