The super PAC backing Leah Vukmir has started a new TV ad that uses footage of GOP rival Kevin Nicholson addressing the 2000 Democratic National Convention to declare, “we can’t trust him.”
It has long been anticipated Nicholson’s speech would become part of a TV ad in his race with Vukmir for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination, and the Wisconsin Next PAC spot comes just more than a month ahead of the Aug. 14 primary.
The ad opens with the narrator saying President Trump “needs an ally he can trust in the U.S. Senate. That’s not Kevin Nicholson.”
The spot then plays a line from Nicholson’s 2000 speech when he was president of the College Democrats.
“We care about a woman’s right to choose,” Nicholson says before the narrator adds, “That’s pro-choice.”
The spot then plays a clip of Nicholson saying in an interview, “a woman’s right to choose must be protected.”
As the narrator then says Nicholson addressed the DNC, the spot shows footage of Hillary Clinton before cutting to a clip of the business consultant and former Marine saying, “the Democratic Party shares our values.”
After the narrator says Nicholson can’t be trusted, she adds “Fortunately, there’s a consistent conservative running for U.S. Senate, Leah Vukmir.” The spot closes with a picture of the state senator standing next to Gov. Scott Walker.
