Rep. Scott Allen today voted in special session to approve a series of bills designed to move people from poverty to success. The package provides training and opportunities which serve to propel people off of dependence and into the workforce.

“We are committed to helping people enter the workforce,” said Rep. Allen. “By providing job training or drug treatment, these programs can restore dignity through employment opportunities.”

Wisconsin has long been at the forefront of welfare reform. In the late 1980’s and 1990’s, Governor Tommy Thompson’s “Wisconsin Works” program became a national model, eventually being utilized by President Bill Clinton.

“This package of bills says to those who feel forgotten or displace that we care, we want you on the team, and we’ll give you the support you might need to get on track,” said Rep. Allen. “It says that everyone is important.”
