MADISON – State Rep. Jimmy Anderson released the following statement in response to Governor Walker’s ordered special session and the Republican proposals regarding school safety and security.

“It is no secret that recent tragic events have shook our country to its core. Students here in Wisconsin and throughout the nation are demanding change from their elected officials. They have marched down our streets and want nothing more than for our government to stand up to the NRA and stop gun violence.

“Governor Walker’s proposed changes fail to address our country’s underlying problem: unfettered access to weapons of war.”

Rep. Anderson added, “We have an opportunity to do something great today. We could pass universal background checks, lower magazine capacity, institute 48 hour waiting periods on gun purchases, and so much more. Instead, we’re only passing laws that address extraneous safety issues without providing sustainable funding. We must do more before we end up losing more young lives.”
