MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin Legislature’s Joint Legislative Council announced appointments to the 2018 Legislative Study Committees.  Representative James Edming (R-Glen Flora) was selected to serve on the Special Committee on State-Tribal Relations for a second time.  Rep. Edming also served on the special committee in 2016.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve on this important committee again this session,” said Rep. Edming.  “I have the privilege of representing one of Wisconsin’s 11 tribal nations in the legislature, and I look forward to working with committee members to develop ideas to improve relations between the State of Wisconsin and the tribal nations.”

In addition to Rep. Edming’s service on the committee, 87th District resident Jason Weaver will serve as the representative of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians on the committee.

“I would like to congratulate Jason on his appointment to the State-Tribal Relations Committee,” said Rep. Edming.  “I know that he will be an outstanding advocate for the Lac Courte Oreilles, and I am excited to work with him to forge stronger relationships between our tribal nations and the state.”

The Special Committee on State-Tribal Relations is directed to study issues relating to American Indians and the American Indian tribes and bands in this state and develop specific recommendations and legislative proposals relating to these issues.
