Rusk County Deputy Honored as an Assembly Hometown Hero
Deputy Matthew Wojcik recognized for his actions that saved the life of a Vietnam War Veteran
MADISON – Today, Representative James Edming (R- Glen Flora) joined his Assembly colleagues in recognizing Rusk County Sheriff’s Deputy, Matthew Wojcik as Wisconsin State Assembly Hometown Hero. Rep. Edming nominated Deputy Wojcik for his actions early last year that saved the life of a Vietnam War Veteran.
“When I learned of Deputy Wojcik’s actions, I knew that he was a perfect nominee for the Assembly’s Hometown Hero Award,” said Rep. Edming. “Deputy Wojcik’s training and instincts alerted him that something was not right. By following his gut feeling, he saved the life of a decorated veteran. His actions deserve to be commended.”
During his early morning patrol on February 25, 2017, Deputy Wojcik observed footprints in the snow heading towards a swampy area near the Village of Bruce. By following his instincts and searching the area, he discovered a 71-year-old man in desperate need of medical assistance.
The Assembly Hometown Heroes program seeks to identify and recognize individuals from around the state who give of themselves to make a difference in our communities and in the lives of those around them
