MADISON – Today, Representative James Edming (R – Glen Flora) supported legislation that among other things increases funding for new positions in district attorney offices around the state. Under Senate Bill (SB) 54 as amended by the Assembly, funding is provided for an additional 53.75 assistant district attorney (ADA) positions in 40 counties including one position in both Marathon and Taylor counties. Funding for the new positions would begin on July 1, 2019.

“The heroin and opioid epidemic has significantly increased caseloads around the state including in counties in the 87th Assembly District,” said Rep. Edming. “I am pleased to support this proposal that will help meet a need in two counties that I represent.”

The additional ADA positions created under this proposal will be allocated to counties where the district attorney’s office requested additional ADA positions and had the highest need according to the most recent workload analysis study conducted by the Legislative Audit Bureau.

SB 54 was approved as amended by Assembly and now returns to the state Senate for further consideration.
