Madison, WI – Earlier today, the Joint Committee on Finance met to vote on appropriating record federal funding that the Department of Transportation received earlier this month. Wisconsin received $227.4 million dollars, which was $67.4 million more than was anticipated and budgeted for, to improve our infrastructure.

Rep. Mary Felzkowski (R-Irma), a member of the Joint Committee on Finance, stated, “This influx of funding not only enabled us to move up the deadline of the ongoing I-94 North-South project by more than a decade, but it allowed us the opportunity to fully fund the Local Bridge Improvement Assistance Program, providing funding for all remaining 70 local bridge projects.

“One of the bridges that will now receive funding is the Spirit River Bridge in Lincoln County. Once improved, this bridge, which is currently diminished in its capacity, will be a tremendous benefit to a variety of local industries such as logging, paper and countless other small local businesses.

“I was eager to vote to provide funding for this crucial piece of infrastructure that will enable Lincoln County to continue to thrive, allow the 35th Assembly District to retain and attract new businesses, and ensure our region continues to move forward.”
