Recognition follows on collaborative efforts with Wisconsin counties to bring meaningful change to Wisconsin’s juvenile corrections system

MADISON – Today the Wisconsin Counties Association honored Rep. Evan Goyke (D-Milwaukee) as an “Outstanding Legislator” prior to the first meeting of the Juvenile Corrections Study Committee at the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Headquarters. Rep. Goyke was recognized for his close collaborative efforts with Wisconsin counties as the legislature drafted and passed 2017 Wisconsin Act 185, which brings important reforms to Wisconsin’s juvenile corrections system.

Following the award presentation, Rep. Goyke offered brief remarks.

“I thank the Wisconsin Counties Association and its members for this great honor,” said Rep. Goyke.

“Wisconsin is taking its first step in meaningful corrections reform. Wisconsin counties will play an integral part in establishing and implementing ‘The Wisconsin Model.’ I look forward to working with the Association and its staff as these new reforms become a reality.”

“This legislation accomplishes great things for our communities, counties, and justice system – both juvenile and adult. Incarcerated youth will now have access to the services and rehabilitation they need while accomplishing these goals closer to their home and families.”
