MADISON—Assembly Democratic Leader Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) released the following statement after learning that former Wisconsin State Senator Michael Ellis passed away earlier today.

“I was saddened to learn of the passing of Senator Mike Ellis. Mike was truly one of a kind. His time in politics spanned many eras and influenced generations of Wisconsinites. He was among the first to recognize the corrupting influence of money in politics. His dedication to public service and his passion for Northeast Wisconsin were evident throughout his tenure in the legislature. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Ellis began his political career on the Neenah Common Council in the 1960s and 1970s before being elected to state government in 1970. He dedicated 44 years to the Wisconsin State Legislature, serving as the Senate majority leader, minority leader, and president.
