Madison – State Representative Warren Petryk (Eleva) joined his Assembly colleagues in supporting an amendment to Senate Bill 54 which would provide the funding for new assistant district attorney positions in 40 Wisconsin counties. This includes two full time positions in both Eau Claire and Dunn Counties as well as a part time position in Pierce County.

“After listening to the concerns of our District Attorneys, they have told me that addressing this staffing shortage is a top priority, as large caseloads and long hours have been challenging DAs for years,” said Rep. Petryk. “I am proud to support this amendment which will help give our rural officials in the criminal justice system the tools and resources they need to properly prosecute those who intend to harm or have harmed other people.”

With the passage of this amendment, the additional assistant district attorney positions would begin on July 1, 2019 and would mark the first significant change in attorney staffing levels since late 2003.
