Madison, WI – Today, Governor Walker signed Assembly Bill 653, which requires facilities that perform mammograms to provide a notice to women regarding dense breast tissue if they have heterogeneously or extremely dense breast tissue. Representative Mike Rohrkaste (R-Neenah) authored the legislation in the Assembly at the request of a resident of the 55th Assembly District, Gail Zeamer. Gail and her family were also in attendance for the bill signing.

“I am proud to have authored this legislation which will positively impact thousands of women across Wisconsin,” said Rep. Rohrkaste. “Thanks to Gail and other advocates, Wisconsin women will have more information to consider when making their own healthcare decisions. This legislation will lead to earlier detection, prevention, and awareness of breast cancer.”

“My hope is that, with this legislation, all women in Wisconsin will have equal access to early detection of breast cancer, even those with dense breasts – providing overall better outcomes regarding treatment and survivability,” said Gail Zeamer.
