Madison, WI – Today, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin presented Rep. Mike Rohrkaste (R-Neenah) with its sixth annual Children’s Champion Policy Award as part of the Wisconsin Hospital Association’s Advocacy Day.

According to Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Champion Policy Award “honors outstanding advocacy efforts on behalf of Wisconsin’s children.” Children’s Hospital selected Representative Rohrkaste in recognition of his fight as a member of the Joint Finance Committee to increase funding for children’s mental health care in the state budget. The budget included funding for grants for schools to employ social workers and to collaborate with community mental health agencies to provide mental health services to students. Governor Walker subsequently directed the Department of Health Services to increase reimbursement to providers for outpatient mental health services.

Children’s Hospital also recognized Representative Rohrkaste for his support for issues like expanded practice settings for dental hygienists (Assembly Bill 146, signed into law as Act 20), surplus retention for rate-based services legislation (Assembly Bill 749/Senate Bill 617), and the Reach Out and Read program (Assembly Bill 541/Senate Bill 449).

“The Children’s Champion Policy Award is a great honor, and I want to thank Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for all they do for children,” Representative Rohrkaste said. “They do great work for so many families, and I look forward to continue working with them in the future.”
