MADISON- Today, Governor Walker called a special session of the Wisconsin State Legislature to consider legislation related to school safety. Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair Representative Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) released the following statement on the governor’s plan:

“I firmly believe we must do everything we can to improve public safety and prevent gun violence. Democrats have repeatedly pushed for common sense legislation such as universal background checks, which over 80% of Wisconsinites support, and increased school services to ensure the safety of our children.

“Governor Walker’s plan to put one-time grant funding into building safety fails to provide schools the consistent resources they need and highlights the Governor’s unwillingness to back real, common sense gun reform.”
