MADISON – Over the last month, Attorney General Brad Schimel has tried several times to hide the work he’s doing at the Department of Justice (DOJ) from the people of Wisconsin. First, he has been mandating employees sign a gag order that prevents them from speaking. Next, AG Schimel retaliated against a former employee after the employee spoke truthfully about him allowing polluters to get away with destroying our environment. Finally, AG Schimel is trying to hide from the public and skirt our open records law regarding his lawsuit to destroy the Affordable Care Act and take away coverage for pre-existing conditions. In response, Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison) issued the following statement:

“AG Schimel has shown his true colors as someone who is openly hostile to open government. His actions have created a climate of secrecy at the DOJ and will have a chilling effect on open government. From his mismanagement of the Lincoln Hills investigation to trying to take away Wisconsinites’ healthcare, I can see why he would want to prevent the public from finding out about what he is really up to as Attorney General. AG Schimel is not representing the people of Wisconsin, but his special interest friends.”
