Assembly GOP votes against Lincoln Hills reforms

MADISON – Today, Assembly Democrats urged Assembly Republicans to bring Assembly Bill 791 to the floor. AB 791 requires the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) to close Lincoln Hills, convert the facility into a correctional treatment facility for adults, and establish regional juvenile correctional facilities throughout Wisconsin. In response, Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison) issued the following statement:

“Assembly Republicans once again showed they are all talk and no action. After six years of mismanagement at Lincoln Hills, where the health and lives of both staff and juveniles are at risk, they voted against AB 791, the solution they spent the last two weeks peddling! At the end of the day, Governor Walker and legislative Republicans have systematically failed the juveniles and staff members at Lincoln Hills with incompetent leadership and serious understaffing. After years of stalling, it is critical that we move this solution forward – the safety of youth and staff depends on it.”
