Madison: Rep. Tittl (R-Manitowoc) was honored as the 2018 Legislator of the Year by the Wisconsin Public Health Association (WPHA) and the Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB) on Wednesday, May 23. He received the award at the Annual Public Health Conference in Green Bay at the KI Convention Center.
“It is such an honor to be recognized by these outstanding organizations as a legislator committed to improving public health policy,” said Rep. Tittl. “The work is far from over, and I look forward to continued collaboration to create a healthier Wisconsin.”
During the 2017-2018 session, Rep. Tittl authored a bill requiring the Department of Health Services to provide $500,000 in annual funding for the control and prevention of communicable diseases. The bill was ultimately incorporated into the 2017-2019 state budget. The first round of funds will be distributed to local health departments by June 30, 2018.
“Even though I have been serving as a state legislator in Madison for more than five years, I have not forgotten my local roots,” said Rep. Tittl who served as Chairman of the Board of Health for Manitowoc County prior to becoming a state representative. “These funds will provide local officials with tools to address pressing needs in our communities. This is a crucial step toward curbing the spread of communicable diseases.”
WPHA is an affiliate of the American Public Health Association. The organization uses policy and partnership to improve health across the state. WALHDAB is the statewide leader for governmental public health, working in alignment with the Department of Health Services-Division of Public Health.
