Rep. Leon Young (414) 791-3225

MADISON – State Representative Leon Young (D-Milwaukee) has requested the Public Service Commission (PSC) to extend the timeframe for the winter utility moratorium.

PCS Administrative Rule 113.0304 prescribes the prohibition period for cold weather disconnections, which runs from November 1 thru April 15 annually.

Though the calendar may indicate that its springtime. The stark reality is that Wisconsin is currently experiencing cold, harsh temperatures that is extending beyond the April 15 disconnection deadline.

Numerous calls from my constituents has brought to my attention that the interruption of services for them would be devastating to say the least. As an elected official, I am deeply concerned about these vulnerable residents in our state, who may resort to some extreme, unorthodox and perhaps unsafe methods for keeping their homes warm.

In light of this potentially dangerous scenario for these residents, I’m respectfully requesting that the PSC consider extending the utility moratorium deadline to May 1.
