Rep. Zamarripa Statement on Cesar Chavez Day Bill
MADISON – Last week, State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) introduced a bill recognizing Cesar Chavez Day. Rep. Zamarripa released the following statement:
“I’m proud to recognize the work of Cesar Chavez, a second-generation Mexican-American, a veteran, a civil rights activist, a union leader and a champion to workers across the country. He saw injustice and made it his life’s work to speak for the voiceless, to fight for the powerless.
“Cesar Chavez devoted his life to lifting up the impoverished. He fought to ensure farms treated their workers with dignity and respect. He championed the cause of unions, the cause of men and women who wanted to have a seat at the table when deciding their own futures. He tirelessly worked for a decent, living wage that would allow countless men and women the ability to seek a brighter future.
“While I am proud to recognize the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, I’m saddened that my colleagues across the aisle in the Wisconsin State Assembly refuse to do the same. Chavez represents the American Dream; he served others to ensure fairness, equality and freedom.”

La semana pasada representante estatal JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) introdujo una resolución para reconocer el día de Cesar Chávez. Representante Zamarripa dio la siguiente declaración:
“Estoy orgullosa de reconocer el trabajo de Cesar Chávez, un Mexicano-Americano de segunda generación, un veterano, un activista para los derechos civiles, un líder sindical, y un campeón para trabajadores en todo el país. Él vio injusticia e hizo su trabajo de vida hablar por los sin voz y luchar por los sin poder.
“Cesar Chávez dedicó su vida a empoderar a la gente de clase obrera. Él luchó para asegurar que las granjas tratan a sus trabajadores con dignidad y respeto. Él defendió la causa de los sindicatos, la causa de hombres y mujeres que querían un asiento en la mesa para decidir sus propios futuros. Él luchó incansablemente para un salario digno, que daría la oportunidad de encontrar un futuro mejor a innumerables hombres y mujeres.
“Aunque estoy orgullosa de reconocer la vida y legada de Cesar Chávez, me entristece que mis colegas republicanos en la asamblea de Wisconsin se niegan a hacer lo mismo. Chávez representa el sueño americano. Él sirvió a otros para asegurar equidad, igualdad y libertad.”
