Rep. Zamarripa Statement on Tuition Equity Bill
MADISON – Last week, State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) introduced a bill to ensure tuition equity for all Wisconsin residents. Rep. Zamarripa released the following statement:
“There is no better way to provide opportunity for all than access to education. I’m proud of the legislation I drafted that was pulled today to give all Wisconsin high school graduates the ability to pay in-state tuition at UW–System universities and colleges, regardless of whether or not they are a U.S. citizen.
“Unfortunately, my Republican colleagues in the Assembly refused to even consider this bill, a bill that would help those who want to study, work hard and do better. We should be lifting these young people up, not holding them back.”

La semana pasada representante estatal JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) introdujo una proposición legislativa para asegurar la equidad de matrícula para todos los residentes de Wisconsin. Representante Zamarripa dio la siguiente declaración:
“No existe una forma mejor de proveer oportunidad para todos que con el acceso a la educación. Estoy orgullosa de la legislación que propuse hoy para dar la capacidad de pagar la matrícula estatal para residentes en colegios y universidades a todos los graduados de Wisconsin, independientemente de si son ciudadanos o no.
“Desafortunadamente, mis colegas republicanos en la asamblea se negaron siquiera considerar esta legislación, lo que ayudaría a estos jóvenes que quieren estudiar, trabajar, y mejorar sus vidas. Deberíamos levantar a estos jóvenes, no retenerlos.”
