HAND DELIVERED

Governor Walker:
With the recent announcement that starting in October sales tax revenue from online purchases will be collected here in Wisconsin, I write to urge your consideration in shifting revenues collected to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program providing tax relief to working people.

Sales tax hits households with incomes under $50,000 the hardest because they spend most of their monthly budget with very little room to put additional dollars into savings.
According to the Legislative Fiscal Bureau in the first year alone $90 million will be raised in new revenue. Surely some of those dollars can be used towards a program with a proven track record of helping working families throughout Wisconsin.

Working families receiving a higher EITC payment will be more inclined to use the additional income on consumer spending helping neighborhood economies and stabilizing household budgets.

Thank you for your consideration and time.

Sincerely,

Josh Zepnick

9th Assembly District
