Madison, WI – State Representatives JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) and Chris Taylor
(D-Madison) issued the following statement in response to Governor Walker’s decision to
send troops from the Wisconsin National Guard to Arizona:

“As the American people have heard countless heartbreaking stories of children being
taken from their families and kept in horrendous conditions, Gov. Walker has decided to
send Wisconsin National Guard troops to Arizona to support the Trump Administration’s
cruel agenda,” said Rep. Zamarripa. “Our governor has decided that the politics of hate and
fear take priority over compassion and humanity. We need to be on the right side of
history. We urge the governor and his party to end these severe policies and focus on
humane comprehensive immigration reform.”

“It is absolutely outrageous that Governor Walker would endorse President Trump’s policy
of taking young, innocent children from their parents by sending Wisconsin National Guard
members to the southwest border,” added Rep. Taylor. “At a time when other states are
suspending the deployment of their National Guard troops in protest of President Trump’s
barbaric policy, I find it repugnant that the Governor would affirmatively choose to
continue traumatizing children.”
