State Senator David Craig

Madison, WI — Today, the Wisconsin State Senate passed a bill authored by Senator David Craig (R-Town of Vernon) which directs the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to create a general permit for small-scale dredging on impoundments (man-made water bodies). The navigability of the Fox River-Tichigan Lake Waterway in Racine County, in particular, has been severely impaired without relief. This bill provides an opportunity for relief.

“Many communities and homeowners along impounded waters like the Fox River-Tichigan Lake Waterway have struggled for years to find solutions to abnormal levels of siltation and muck build up which prevent access to recreation on the water. Riparian owners must be allowed to fix this problem. With this bill, we will have a pathway for homeowners to find relief and once again fully use and enjoy their property,” Senator Craig said.

Senator Craig represents the 28th Senate District which includes parts of Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine, and Walworth counties.
