Erpenbach renews call for non-partisan redistricting reform

MADISON, WI – The United States Supreme Court delayed a decision on the actual merits of the case against GOP partisan gerrymandered legislative maps, sending the case back to district court. State Senator Jon Erpenbach released the following statement:

“The way the Wisconsin GOP has drawn our legislative maps has prevented many voters from being heard,” said Erpenbach (D-Middleton). “This decision means it’s even more important that lawmakers act to adopt a non-partisan redistricting reform plan. Senate Democrats will continue to pursue a process that is fair to all citizens in Wisconsin. While the plaintiffs continue to make their case, the Legislature should pursue change now.”

The Supreme Court also failed to rule on the merits of another redistricting case in the state of Maryland. Wisconsin continues to have the dishonor of being one of the worst examples of partisan gerrymandering in our nation.
