(MADISON) – Tuesday night, a natural gas explosion in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin led to multiple injuries and the death of one firefighter. Amongst those injured were at least six civilians, five firefighters and one police officer.

The firefighter lost in the explosion, Captain Cory Barr, was a ten-year veteran of the Sun Prairie Fire Department and a passionate leader of the Sun Prairie business community, the proud owner of a tavern that was damaged in the fire.

After hearing about the tragic loss of Captain Barr, Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) made the following statement:

“Yesterday, Sun Prairie suffered the tragic loss of a man who gave everything he had to his community. I now join the entire state in extending my prayers to the family members, colleagues and friends of Captain Cory Barr. In the difficult times ahead may they find strength in his memory.”

“I think of the words of Susan Diane Murphree, “Firemen never die, they just burn forever in the hearts of the people they saved.” Thank you for your service Cory.”
