MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill authored by Sen. Leah Vukmir, R-Brookfield, into law on Tuesday that prohibits Wisconsin from contracting with any company participating in the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanction movement against Israel.

“This bill strengthens Wisconsin’s economic alliance with our friend Israel,” Vukmir said. “The BDS movement is a hateful campaign that promotes the division and destruction of Israel. This kind of discrimination has no place in Wisconsin.”

The new law prohibits state government and local municipalities from contracting with companies boycotting Israel. It also bans local municipalities from establishing their own rules and ordinances to boycott or divest from Israel.

“Our new law shows that Wisconsin will not tolerate anti-Semitic initiatives targeting Israel,” Vukmir said. “As the only true democracy in the Middle East, Israel deserves our support. I’m proud that we are reaffirming our partnership with them today.”
