Waukesha, Wis. — State Sen. Leah Vukmir, R–Brookfield, received the 2018 “Building Wisconsin” award, presented by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin, on Wednesday. The award recognizes her leadership in enacting legislation that benefits the state’s construction industry.

“Wisconsin should never alienate our workers. All qualified laborers should get equal access to work on taxpayer-funded projects,” Vukmir said. “I am proud of the work ABC of Wisconsin is doing to grow the construction industry, and I look forward to working with them to bring more quality jobs to our state in the future.”

Vukmir co-authored a law that allows all qualified contractors to have a fair shot at bidding for work paid with tax dollars, regardless of whether they use project-labor agreements. She is the author of the law to repeal Wisconsin’s prevailing wage requirements and a champion who made Wisconsin a right-to-work state.

Sen. Vukmir received the “Building Wisconsin” award at Zignego Company, Inc. The company has been successfully building urban, highway, and interstate construction projects throughout the state of Wisconsin since 1980.
