MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin State Legislature has passed the majority of the Victim Prevention Package authored by Sen. Leah Vukmir, R–Brookfield, and Rep. Joe Sanfelippo, R-New Berlin, to hold offenders accountable.

“I am proud to have authored this package of bills to put Wisconsinites’ safety first,” Vukmir said. “For too long, violent crime has skyrocketed and gone unchecked. These bills will finally hold violent criminals accountable.”

The approved package includes bills that increase penalties for repeat carjacking offenders, closes a loophole to hold felons in possession of a firearm accountable, increases minimum prison sentences for repeat violent offenders, and gives the Department of Corrections tools to appropriately sanction especially disobedient juveniles.

“These bills are about protecting Wisconsinites and ensuring violent repeat offenders are no longer terrorizing our communities,” Vukmir said. “Every time a violent crime is committed, another person’s life is sadly impacted.  Enough is enough. Wisconsinites deserve to feel safe.”
