WisDOT Notes 4-Lane Expansion Could Begin in Summer 2019

Madison – Following a successful public hearing last month, legislators near the Highway 23 corridor from Plymouth to Fond du Lac are reminding constituents that the deadline is rapidly approaching to submit comments to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) in favor of the 4-lane expansion. State Senators Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg), Dan Feyen (R-Fond du Lac), and Duey Stroebel (R-Saukville) along with State Representatives Terry Katsma (R-Oostburg), Tyler Vorpagel (R-Plymouth), and Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac) noted the deadline to submit comments to WisDOT is Tuesday, July 31st.

At WisDOT’s Highway 23 public hearing last month, more than 350 residents attended. Local elected officials, area business leaders, and concerned citizens explained why the current two-lane highway is dangerous and how it is hindering economic growth in the area.

However, the legislators noted that continued strong public participation is needed to demonstrate to the federal government the overwhelming local support for the four-lane expansion of Highway 23. According to WisDOT, if the Federal Highway Administration approves the plan this fall, construction on the four-lane expansion could begin next summer (2019).

Specifically, WisDOT is currently accepting comments on the new joint state-federal environmental analysis of the Highway 23 corridor. Comments can be submitted to Bryan Lipke, WisDOT project manager. His contact information is as follows:

Bryan Lipke
WisDOT Northeast Region
944 Vanderperren Way

Comments can be submitted via e-mail or sent by mail. Constituents are urged to share why the four-lane expansion is important to them. All comments must be postmarked or received by July 31, 2018.
