Also honors Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding and Hurckman Mechanical Industries with the Excellence in Safety Award

WASHINGTON – The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the national trade association representing the U.S. shipyard industry, hosted its annual spring meeting in Washington, D.C. this week and honored Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) as a recipient of SCA’s prestigious Maritime Leadership Award.

As recipient of the Maritime Leadership Award, Sen. Baldwin is recognized as an exemplary leader in Congress who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and support of the U.S. shipbuilding and repair industry. Overall the shipbuilding and repair industry, which provides more than 400,000 jobs nationwide, sustains the critical industrial base that enables the U.S. build and repair its own fleet of commercial and military vessels.

“It is critically important that all Members of Congress and those in the Administration understand the vital role of the U.S shipbuilding and repair industry to U.S. national, economic and homeland security, and Sen. Baldwin not only understands but is a champion for our industry. Sen. Baldwin has proven to be a relentless voice for Wisconsin maritime, and the men and women of our industry thank her for her unwavering support,” said SCA President, Matthew Paxton.

I am honored to receive this award from the Shipbuilders Council of America because it is a real testament to the manufacturers and workers in Wisconsin who will continue to move our shipbuilding economy forward.” said Senator Baldwin, “I also want to congratulate two great companies, Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding and Hurckman Mechanical Industries, on their awards and all they do to strengthen our Made in Wisconsin economy.”

Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) also received the Maritime Leadership Awardfor dedicated support for the industry.

During the annual meeting, two shipyards in Sen. Baldwin’s home state of Wisconsin, Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding and Hurckman Mechanical Industries, Inc., were awarded the SCA Excellence in Safety Award. Excellence in Safetyis given to shipyards that go above and beyond to promote a culture of safety.
