Today, the House will vote on H.R. 695, legislation to fully fund our military so our troops are well-equipped on the battlefield. The only thing standing in the way of getting our military the resources it needs is Senate Democrats.

Twice last year, the House has passed similar appropriation bills to fund the Pentagon. And in both instances, the measures stalled in the Senate under threat of a Democratic filibuster.

Democrats are holding our military hostage over an unrelated issue by blocking these bills and a broader budget agreement. Rather than working with Republicans in good faith to negotiate new spending caps, Democrats would rather play political games with our national security. This is reckless, dangerous, and irresponsible.

At a press conference with Republican leaders this morning, Speaker Ryan stressed the need for getting our troops the resources they need:

“Our men and women in uniform, they depend upon these resources to keep themselves safe and to keep us safe. So I urge the Senate Democrats to do the right thing: Drop the filibuster, process the legislation. We want to find a DACA solution, we will find a DACA solution, so don’t hold our military funding hostage for this. Let’s move forward.”

So Democrats, now is your chance to help us rebuild our military. Help us get our troops the tools they need to do their jobs. And help us ensure our national defense remains unwavering now and in the future. Vote for this bill.
