Madison…Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) released the following statement about the 2017-18 legislative session after the Assembly concluded its floor work during its spring session.
“It’s been an incredible session that will deliver results for Wisconsin families. Schools are getting a record amount of funding, families with college students are seeing two more years of a tuition freeze and our citizens are paying fewer taxes. We’re also easing families’ worries about their health care by increasing access to affordable care.
“Our list of accomplishments this session is long. From the welfare reform that will be a model for our country to the bipartisan juvenile corrections overhaul, we’re working hard to build our workforce and find solutions to issues facing our state.
“Another major accomplishment was landing Foxconn. The largest economic development project in state history will bring 13,000 family-supporting careers with above average wages. It’s simply awesome and will be great for Racine County and the entire state of Wisconsin.
“I’m especially proud that we passed our foster care reform agenda. It all started when I sat down with a family in Union Grove who told me their story. It’s wonderful when I hear from my constituents and then help make their ideas become law.
“Bipartisanship has been the norm this session. More than 90 percent of the new laws received bipartisan support. We know that when you put aside political differences, you can make a real difference in the lives of Wisconsinites.”
