MADISON— Yesterday, State Representative Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) was re-elected by his fellow Democratic representatives in the Wisconsin State Assembly to serve as the Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair during the 2019-20 legislative session. He released the following statement regarding the honor:

“I am humbled to once again be elected Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair by my Democratic colleagues in the Assembly. In this role, I will continue to work with my fellow legislators to fight for values like fairness, opportunity, and community that will move Wisconsin forward.

“We will champion priorities that Wisconsinites have shared with us loud and clear this November, such as building an economy that works for everyone, investing in our future by funding public education and improving our infrastructure, strengthening communities and families by ensuring affordable healthcare and protecting our environment, and empowering people in our democracy by passing fair district maps and making it easier to vote.

“The next two years present us with the opportunity to bring a message of positive change to the people of Wisconsin. With an additional Democratic seat in the Assembly and Tony Evers as Governor, Assembly Democrats have a renewed vision and sense of optimism heading into the 2019-20 legislative session.”

Rep. Spreitzer will begin his third term representing the 45th Assembly District in January. He served on eight committees and was unanimously elected Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair in the 2017-18 legislative session. Prior to taking office, Rep. Spreitzer served as Beloit City Council President and worked for Beloit College, his alma mater. The 45th Assembly District contains segments of Rock and Green counties, and includes the communities of Brodhead, Albany, Evansville, Orfordville, Juda, and Beloit.
