Born to serve 2nd term working on state budget

Madison- State Representative Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam) was reappointed by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos to serve as a member of the Joint Committee on Finance. This will be Rep. Born’s second term on the 16-member standing committee, which is primarily tasked with reviewing and crafting the state’s two year budget.

“I am honored to be reappointed by Speaker Vos to serve as a member of the Joint Finance Committee,” said Born. “This role will allow me to build on the successes Assembly Republicans have fought for in recent years, helping craft a conservative budget that invests in our shared priorities.”

Born was first appointed to the powerful budget committee last session, where he had the opportunity to work on the 2017-19 biennial budget. More specifically, Born had a focus on UW System and Corrections policy areas. Born played an instrumental role in passing a balanced budget that made historic investments in K-12 education and kept taxes low.

“Wisconsin’s economy is thriving and our unemployment rate is at a record low. Now is not the time to take our state backward,” said Born. “I look forward to continuing to listen to my colleagues in the Assembly and the citizens of the 39th Assembly District as we work to continue to make Wisconsin a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

Governor-elect Evers is set to submit his budget to the legislature early next year. Following his introduction, the Joint Committee on Finance will begin their role by holding public hearings across the state to gather input on the budget.
