(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) early this morning supported the Bipartisan Budget Act. The two-year budget agreement includes funding for items like disaster relief, infrastructure and a long-term extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
“Quite simply, voting in favor of this budget kept the government open – something I thought important to do, but that some of my House colleagues did not; they wanted to once again shut down the government over the DACA program, but this time they were unsuccessful. One of the main reasons I voted for this bipartisan budget is because it provides $6 billion to fight the opioid epidemic that’s become a national health crisis in this country. It’s a tragedy that drug overdose is now the leading killer of Americans under 50, and this budget will fund grants and prevention programs across the U.S. to help put an end to senseless drug-related deaths,” said Grothman.
“Additionally, it includes a structural change to Medicare that will drive down prescription costs for seniors. For years, I’ve fought against drug companies’ skyrocketing costs so I believe this is a positive change. It also helps reduce the facility maintenance backlog at the Veterans Administration to make sure our veterans receive the care they deserve, and it ensures our men and women in uniform have the resources they need while defending freedom at home and abroad.”
