WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, said this Monday after the Foreign Relations Committee reported out the nomination of Mike Pompeo to be secretary of state:

“Director Pompeo is an extraordinary individual who’s well-suited to serving as secretary of state. His service in the military, Congress, and now as director of the CIA has prepared him for the diplomatic challenges he would face in this role. I have long said that presidents should be able to choose their top advisors, and it is sad that my Democratic colleagues on the committee collectively voted no on the confirmation of someone with the qualifications and character of Director Pompeo.”
