MADISON – On Monday, October 29, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) International President Lonnie R. Stephenson, IBEW International Vice President David Ruhmkorff and members will canvass in Madison neighborhoods to mobilize working families to support pro-worker candidates in this year’s election.

“The truth is, our country, and especially working families and the labor movement, are at a tipping point,” said IBEW International Vice President David Ruhmkorff. “I wish that was an exaggeration. But on one side, it’s more of the same attacks on union members by elected officials like Scott Walker and Leah Vukmir, stagnant wages and wealth flowing to the top one percent. And on the other side, it’s a Congress and state and local officials who are willing to work with us to make sure the economy works for every American, no matter their income.”

Regional and local union leaders will rally with volunteers before they hit the doors. The canvass is part of the Wisconsin Labor 2018 program, an election effort powered by Wisconsin unions.

“Street-by-street and person-by-person, we’re having conversations about the issues that matter most—Higher wages, better benefits, time off, a secure retirement and a fair return on our labor,” said Tony Bartels, Secretary-Treasurer of Wisconsin State Conference of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. By starting now and putting our agenda first, we’ll be able to cut through the television ads and political noise the last week of the campaigns.”

Wisconsin Labor 2018 is dedicated to mobilizing working people to elect pro-worker candidates in races up and down the ballot in Wisconsin. Since May, union members have been knocking on doors, making phone calls, and holding worksite actions across the state in support of labor’s endorsed candidates.
