UW–Madison views allegations of sexual violence with deep concern. When anyone tells us that they have experienced sexual misconduct, we respond – and that includes providing support resources as well as information on formal reporting options.

We are aware of these specific criminal charges regarding a student athlete. As called for under the Student Athlete Discipline Policy, the Athletic Department announced today that Quintez Cephus has been immediately suspended from competition and practice.

To protect student privacy and comply with federal law, the university generally does not release specific information about student discipline or non-academic misconduct under Chapter 17 of the UW System Administrative Code. We are unable to discuss whether a misconduct complaint has been made or is under investigation in a particular case.

Generally speaking, however, when a student misconduct complaint is made that involves sexual misconduct, the Title IX Program in the Office of Compliance may conduct a formal impartial investigation into the allegations.

Based on information gathered during the investigation, the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards makes an initial determination of whether a violation of the nonacademic misconduct code occurred and conducts further proceedings as provided for under Chapter 17 of the Wisconsin Administrative code. More information on this process can be found here.
