MILWAUKEE – On Monday afternoon, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers detained a Wisconsin father of 4 named Franco Ferreyra after he reported to ICE’s Milwaukee office for a routine check-in. Franco has lived in Wisconsin since 2001, when he was 13. He works as a waiter in Waukesha. Franco graduated from Waukesha South High School in 2006 and attends St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waukesha. Although Franco qualified for DACA, he was advised not to apply for the program after receiving a traffic ticket for driving while intoxicated in 2013.

Voces de la Frontera launched a petition on Monday urging Chicago ICE Field Office Director Ricardo Wong to release Franco.

“Wisconsin is my son’s home,” said Alfredo Ferreyra, Franco’s father. “He graduated high school here. He is raising his kids here. His children will be devastated if he is separated from them. We urgently hope that ICE will free Franco and reunite him with his children.”

“The Trump administration’s escalating campaign of terror against immigrant communities is threatening to tear millions of families apart,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces d ela Frontera. “But our community is resisting. We urge the public to join us in protesting these arrests, in signing petitions, and to become members of Voces’ rapid response networks and court accompaniment teams.”
