RACINE, WISCONSIN – With the federal government expected to shut down Thursday night unless Congress passes spending legislation, constituents of US Speaker of the House Paul Ryan will rally at his Racine office Wednesday to urge him to allow a vote on a spending bill that includes Dream Act protections for immigrrant youth. Since the President ended DACA protections in September 2017, over 19,000 immigrant youth have lost protections and become vulnerable to deportations. The group will rally at 3:30pm on the corner of S 6th St & Main St and then march to Speaker Ryan’s office at 216 S 6th St.

“I’m fighting for a clean dream act because I’m fighting with and for my friends,” said Lizbeth Enciso, a student and member of Youth Empowered in the Struggle at Horlick High School in Racine. “Any funding bill that doesn’t include the Dream Act funds the deportation of immigrnt youth, and is unacceptable.”
