MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN— On Thursday, May 3 at 12pm, members of New Sanctuary Milwaukee will gather outside the Milwaukee ICE office as part of a national day of action to protest the Trump Administration’s sweeping crackwon against immigrant communities. Faith-based immigrant rights groups will hold actions in over 10 cities today, each of which will include a Jericho Walk, a faith-based traditional protest characterized by peaceful, communal walking inspired by the biblical account of Joshua felling the walls of Jericho by circumventing the city seven times. In Milwaukee, rally participants will pray for immigrant families facing deportation, and call for the passage of legislation to provide a pathway to citizenship to DACA recipients and refugee families protected by the Temporary Protective Status program.

President Trump ordered an end to DACA on September 5th, 2017. While that order has been partially blocked by a federal judge, on Tuesday, Texas and 6 other states filed a lawsuit that could eliminate it in entirely. Since taking office, Trump has revoked TPS protections for refugee families from Liberia, El Salvador, Haiti, Nicaragua, Sudan, and most recently Nepal, and he has indicated that he will eliminate TPS protections for the other 4 countries whose citizens can currenlty be protected by the program.
