EAU CLAIRE – Rep. Dana Wachs, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate challenging Scott Walker in November, responded to news this morning that Corning Inc. executives are calling on taxpayers or Foxconn to pay $2 out of every $3 it costs to build a glass facility next to the planned Foxconn factory in southeastern Wisconsin:

“The saying goes, give them an inch and they’ll take a mile. That’s just like this Foxconn mess of Gov. Walker’s.

“The costs keep adding up. First, it was $3 billion, then it was $4.5 billion. Now this Foxconn supplier seems to want millions more in our tax dollars to build their facility. Gov. Walker walked right into financial quicksand and he doesn’t see that we’re sinking.

“This gamble was too big, too expensive, and just too risky. At the end of the day, Gov. Walker will have to keep on funneling money into Foxconn and it’s suppliers to make the project look successful. Wisconsin taxpayers are on the hook for every ill-fated penny.”
