Wachs campaign: Responds to Right-Wing Agenda to Dismantle Public Schools, Higher Education
EAU CLAIRE – Dana Wachs issued the following statement today after an appearance by Betsy DeVos on 60 Minutes March 11 revealed her ongoing, fundamental misunderstanding of education in America:

“Like most Americans, I was stunned by Secretary DeVos’ complete and total lack of awareness of the realities of public education funding during her 60 Minutes interview. To admit that she never visited or evaluated failing public schools in her home state where she led public education efforts is mind-boggling. We need leaders who support public schools, public school teachers, and our children.

“This is not just a national issue. From President Trump’s plan to slash $4 billion in federal student aid programs for college graduates — like loan forgiveness for public school teachers — to Gov. Walker’s repeated cuts to Wisconsin colleges and universities, we’re facing never-ending attacks on education.

“We have to fight back for our public schools, our students, and our universities. As governor, I will fully fund our public schools, colleges, and universities. I will value public school teachers and I will help people drowning in student loan debt refinance their loans so they can pay them off faster. The more we invest in education, the better our communities and our future will be.

“This radical right-wing attack on education by Walker, DeVos, and Trump has to end with us. We can stand up and fight back together.”

Rep. Dana Wachs is a Democratic candidate for governor. An Eau Claire native, Wachs has advocated for public education and higher education during three terms in the Assembly and while a member of the Eau Claire City Council in 2011.
