EAU CLAIRE – Rep. Dana Wachs issued the following statement in response to a Dane County Circuit Ruling regarding a lawsuit filed by the National Democratic Redistricting Committee regarding Gov. Scott Walker’s refusal to hold special elections for two vacant legislative seats:

“Gov. Walker cannot simply decide to ignore state law when it is convenient for him. Even his own lawyers admitted that the voters do not have representation. It’s outrageous.

“It is fairly evident what is happening. Gov. Walker is afraid of the growing Democratic support and enthusiasm building across our state.

“Not holding elections violates the basic tenants of our democracy. Already, the legislature has been in session since these seats were vacated. Voters in De Pere and Lodi have not been represented on issues of taxes, justice, and our environment.”

Rep. Dana Wachs is a Democrat running for governor. An attorney for more than 31 years, he has advocated for the rights of Wisconsinites in the courtroom and during his three terms serving District 91 in the Legislature.
