Working families champion to promote innovation; policies to move Wisconsin forward

MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin Working Families Party today announced their support for Sarah Godlewski to be the next State Treasurer of Wisconsin. A finance expert and small business owner from Eau Claire, Godlewski is running for State Treasurer to be a fiscal watchdog, advocating for the interests of state taxpayers, providing oversight to ensure that public funding is used efficiently, and serving as a check and balance to Wisconsin’s governor and the state legislature. Godlewski is running for the Democratic nomination for the open seat in the August 14 primary.

“Wisconsin Working Families Party is proud to endorse Sarah Godlewski for State Treasurer,” said Rebecca Lynch, political director of Wisconsin Working Families Party. “Sarah has a bold vision for transforming the State Treasurer office to benefit working families, including advocating for the financial health of seniors and veterans as well as addressing the student loan crisis. She is also committed to making sure that public investment in business is used to benefit taxpayers, not just corporations.”

Godlewski, who was key in the campaign to save the State Treasurer’s office from a Scott Walker power grab, is a co-Founder of MaSa Impact, a social-impact investment venture that funds and works with entrepreneurs to build successful start-ups that make a difference.

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Wisconsin Working Families Party,” said Sarah Godlewski. “I look forward to working together on our shared vision — a future in which our economy works for everyone and our elected leaders are accountable to working people.”

Unlike many political organizations, Wisconsin Working Families Party is making primary endorsements to ensure that the most progressive candidates are on the general election ballot to challenge Republicans and win. The Party will provide people power to the campaign, mobilizing volunteers and members to put boots on the ground to educate voters.

Wisconsin Working Families Party has already endorsed Mandela Barnes to be Lieutenant Governor and is leading the Wisconsin’s Choice campaign, which is engaging voters statewide in selecting and supporting the Democratic gubernatorial nominee. The organization recruited Randy Bryce to challenge Paul Ryan in the First Congressional District and has been key in electing progressive candidates in Racine and Milwaukee.
