MILWAUKEE, WI — Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale released the following statement on Wisconsin Republicans and outgoing Gov. Scott Walker’s use of a lame-duck special session to ram through anti-democracy bills and limit the power of newly elected Governor Tony Evers.

“The people went to the polls and voted for a new direction in Madison, not a repeat of the Scott Walker dirty tricks playbook. It is outrageous that Scott Walker and Republican legislators are using a lame-duck special session to limit the powers of a democratically elected Governor and waste millions of taxpayer dollars by moving long-planned election dates,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. “Wisconsinites want Republicans to stop playing politics and work together with Gov.-elect Tony Evers on creating good job opportunities in every corner of our state, protecting affordable healthcare, and strengthening union rights to strengthen our middle class. Instead of ramming through changes that will cost taxpayers millions and restricting authority of our newly elected Governor, lawmakers should instead focus on the real concerns of Wisconsin working families.”
